There are many types of gantry cranes, which is a variant of bridge cranes. In the port, it is mainly used for the loading and unloading operations of outdoor cargo yards, stock yards and bulk cargoes. There are four types of gantry cranes according to their usage.

 

1. Ordinary Gantry Crane

 

This type of crane mostly adopts box-type and truss-type structures, and is widely used. It can handle all kinds of articles and bulk materials, with a lifting capacity of less than 100 tons and a span of 4 to 39 meters. The working level of ordinary gantry crane with grab is higher. Common gantry cranes mainly refer to hook, grab, electromagnetic, hoist gantry cranes, and also include half-gantry cranes.

 

2. Gantry crane for hydropower station

 

It is mainly used for lifting and opening and closing gates, and can also be installed. The lifting weight is 80-500 tons, the span is small, 8-16 meters; the lifting speed is low, 1-5 meters/minute. Although this kind of crane is not often hoisted, but once it is used, the work is very heavy, so it is necessary to appropriately increase the work level.

 

3. Shipbuilding gantry crane

 

It is used for assembling the hull of the berth. There are often two lifting trolleys: one has two main hooks, which runs on the rail of the upper flange of the bridge; the other has a main hook and a secondary hook, which are on the lower flange of the bridge. Run on the track to flip and hoist large hull sections. The lifting weight is generally 100 to 1500 tons; the span is up to 185 meters; the lifting speed is 2 to 15 meters/minute, and there is also the inching speed of 0.1 to 0.5 meters/minute.

 

4. Container Gantry Crane

 

Used in container terminals. Containers unloaded from the ship by the trailer container bridge

 

After being transported to the storage yard or the rear, the container gantry cranes are stacked up or directly loaded and transported away, which can speed up the turnover of the container carrier bridge or other cranes. The storage yard for stacking containers with 3 to 4 stories high and 6 rows wide is generally tire type, but also rail type. Compared with the container straddle truck, the container gantry crane has a larger span and a higher height on both sides of the gantry. In order to meet the transportation needs of ports and terminals, the working level of this crane is relatively high.
